Known as the Laignach Faelad, these men were feared across ancient Ireland. It was said that they could shape-shift, changing their form into that of horrific wolves. This legion of men became an army of wolves, devouring their enemies and leaving a wake of tattered, torn bodies behind them. Half man, half wolf - these creatures were vicious. These Faelad were highly sought after by the Irish Kings because whomever they Wolf warriors fought for was guaranteed to win on the battlefield.
The Laignach Faelad were not picky with whom they would side with. They would fight for any King who would be willing to pay their exorbitant price. During these aggressive wars between the old Irish Kings, the Royals would become desperate- eager to do anything in their power to walk away victorious, including bartering for the services of the feared warriors. However, this deal would not win favors with their subjects - no matter the reason behind the agreement. These terrifying creatures did not accept gold or jewels as payment. Oh no - this story wouldn't be as horrific if that was the case. No, the Laignach Faelad would only accept newborn flesh as payment for their fight.
So how do these feared ancient creatures fit into my in-progress dark, mythical fantasy? You'll have to stick with me to find out! Keep an eye out for more sneak peeks and informative histories of some of the folklore written into RED.
