And I have to say, I'm hooked.
I can't thank the local elementary school enough for offering me the opportunity to celebrate #ReadAcrossAmerica Day with their students. And I can't thank the students enough for truly loving my book. It made everything I've done up until now worth it, in my opinion. There is nothing as honest as a child and to have them ooh, oh no, and aw along with the story just warmed my heart in a way I didn't know could happen. I remember thinking to myself, "This... this is why we do it. This is what authors pour their heart and soul onto the page for. This moment, right here."
After each time I read, that class was given an opportunity to ask questions. It was the most fun I've ever had "at work". They had such amusing and thoughtful questions such as, "how do you become an author," "when did you start writing," and my personal favorite, "what's it like to be a famous author?" By no means would I say I'm a famous author, but it made me giggle just to be asked. Gotta love kids.
As each group left, I was given lots of hugs and thank you's... and they all seemed eager for the next book to come out. The experience left me completely enamored and I'm ready to get the next book wrapped up now.
I love what I do. And these kids just reminded me again why exactly I love it so much. Check out the slideshow below for pictures!
